Trauma

Ignoring trauma is not healing trauma.

Have you experienced something so painful, difficult or devastating that it continues to affect you to this day? Have you tried ignoring it in hopes that you someday forget?

Do you experience any of these regularly?

- Avoidance of events, people, or situations that trigger an unpleasant memory

- Inability to relax or constantly feeling on edge

- Flashbacks, nightmares, or persistent unwanted memories

- Frequently feeling intense emotions such as fear, anger or guilt

- Panic attacks or overwhelming anxiety

Trauma quite literally means "a wound", and a traumatic event is one that has wounded you deeply. More specifically, a traumatic experience is one that was "too much" for your nervous system at that moment, so your brain shut down to protect itself and developed ways to manage these threats. As a result, these memories remain raw and unprocessed, effectively enabling the past to continue haunting you as your nervous system remains "on guard". Therapy is a way for you to confront these old wounds in order to heal and find freedom.

You're exhausted, numb, and tired of thinking about it. I get it. Therapy is hard work because we must go back to these memories to unpack them in order to let them go. It is not a race, I'll walk alongside you as you go through this process to:

- Confront your past and examine how it has affected you

- Practice strategies to manage the emotions and reactions you continue to experience

- Create meaning and resilience to reshape your relationship to the past

I'm here to help you carry the burdens you've been holding.
